My name is Sergej, I am 15 years old and I currently live in the care group of Lapiai Primary School. Together with my sisters Jelena and Marina, I came to Lapius in 2010, when my mother was hospitalized for treatment of a serious illness - tuberculosis. We hoped that we would only live here temporarily and that mom would get well soon, but alas... Mom was overcome by illness. We are alone and have been living in Lapia for 5 years. Alone because we don't have a father, grandparents or other relatives to take care of us. We only have each other.

During this time, we learned to deal with a large part of our worries on our own and not to wait for adults to come and solve everything. However, their help is still needed, even though it is difficult to ask. I face one problem everyday but I can't solve it. It's my crooked teeth and wrong bite. I try to ignore them and keep smiling, laughing and just enjoying what I have. When I heard about the possibility of applying to the foundation, I was told that I would have to tell about my problem. It was hard to force myself to admit that my teeth actually made me feel bad, but I did. Maybe I could get along with the looks, but I have trouble speaking and chewing. When the doctor examined me, it became clear that if we do not treat this problem, the front teeth will become even more crooked and wear down. Doctors also call it "poor dental function", which will only get worse, and I will have to put up with it for the rest of my life.

The doctor also said that doctors already know how to solve such a problem today. It would require long, difficult treatment and surgery, but then everything would be fine. Treatment is difficult, but everything is possible if you have a lot of patience and a sufficient amount of money... I have enough patience, but not enough money. Health insurance funds do not cover all treatment costs, and the Lapiai nursing home, where I live, cannot provide such an amount either. Every year it gets harder and harder to ask for help, but if I could fix my teeth and bite, my life would change completely...for life.
